What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the psychometric properties of the Mini-BESTest balance assessment scale in individuals suffering from chronic non-cancer pain. It will evaluate the test-retest reliability of the scale and explore participants' subjective beliefs and experiences regarding their balance and the testing process. Participants will be divided into two groups: one for the test-retest evaluation and another for interviews about their experiences during the assessment. The study seeks to enhance understanding of balance issues in chronic pain patients and improve assessment methods.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with chronic pain lasting more than three months who are visiting a pain clinic.

Not a fit: Patients currently receiving acute cancer treatment, palliative care, or those with cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved balance assessment techniques for patients with chronic pain, enhancing their overall care.

How similar studies have performed: While the Mini-BESTest has shown adequate construct validity in chronic pain populations, the specific test-retest reliability has not been previously explored, making this approach novel.
