What this trial studies

This study aims to quantitatively assess how attention to faces changes in patients who have undergone orthognathic surgery for dentofacial deformities. By utilizing eye-tracking technology, the researchers will analyze visual attention patterns before and after surgery. The focus is on understanding the social perception of individuals with jaw deformities and how surgical correction may impact their interactions. Participants will be naïve to the management of dentofacial deformities and will provide informed consent to take part in the study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who have not previously been treated for dentofacial deformities.

Not a fit: Patients with known facial pathology or those familiar with dentofacial deformities and their management may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the psychological and social benefits of orthognathic surgery for patients with dentofacial deformities.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of eye-tracking in this context may be novel, similar studies have shown that surgical interventions can positively affect social perception and self-esteem.
