What this trial studies

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a novel online game-based learning approach, called v-Care, designed to enhance interprofessional education among health care students, particularly nursing students. The game focuses on improving readiness for interprofessional collaboration by engaging students from various health disciplines, including nursing, rehabilitation sciences, and health technology. By utilizing motivational gamification strategies rooted in Self-Determination Theory, the study seeks to create an engaging learning environment that reflects the preferences of millennial learners. The effectiveness of this approach will be evaluated through a waitlist control design, comparing outcomes between participants who engage with the game and those who do not.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are undergraduate nursing students and students from related health disciplines who are enrolled in specific courses focusing on colorectal cancer and frailty.

Not a fit: Students retaking the specified subjects or those studying disorders unrelated to colorectal cancer or frailty may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the readiness and effectiveness of health care students for collaborative practice, ultimately improving patient care outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of gamification in education is gaining traction, this specific approach to interprofessional education through an online game is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in similar contexts.
