What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the effectiveness of an advanced practice physiotherapy model in conjunction with orthopedic surgeon care for adults with peripheral musculoskeletal disorders at the Hôpital Jean-Talon orthopedic outpatient clinic. It will evaluate changes in pain, disability, quality of life, and patient satisfaction over a period of 26 weeks. The study will also explore interprofessional collaboration between physiotherapists and orthopedic surgeons, as well as the waiting times for consultations. Patients will be compared based on whether they received care from both physiotherapists and surgeons or from surgeons alone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with peripheral musculoskeletal disorders who are new patients at the orthopedic outpatient clinic.
Not a fit: Patients referred directly from the emergency department may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management and outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is observational, similar studies have shown promising results in improving patient outcomes through integrated care models.
