What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the prevalence of abnormal Pap smears in sexually active women of reproductive age attending the outpatient clinic at Sohag University Hospital. Participants will undergo a thorough medical history evaluation and a Pap smear test, which involves collecting cervical samples for cytological analysis. The samples will be processed and interpreted using the Bethesda System to determine the presence of any abnormalities. The study focuses on women who have not had a Pap smear in the last three years and those with a history of abnormal results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are sexually active women aged 21 to 60 who have not had a Pap smear in the last three years.

Not a fit: Patients who have been diagnosed with cervical cancer, undergone total hysterectomy, or had a Pap smear with reassuring results in the last three years may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance early detection of cervical cancer and improve screening practices among women.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have successfully evaluated the prevalence of abnormal Pap smears, indicating that this approach is well-established.
