What this trial studies

This project aims to assess the effectiveness of the ASTERISK wireless electrode system for users of transradial prostheses. The study will compare user satisfaction with the ASTERISK system against standard prosthetic configurations using a randomized 2x2 crossover design. Participants will wear the ASTERISK system, which allows for wireless transmission of myoelectric signals, under a prosthetic liner, enhancing comfort and control. The findings will inform the development of this technology into a commercial product and contribute to future prosthetic designs.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who currently use trans-radial myoelectric prostheses or orthoses and have done so for at least six months.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological or physical conditions that hinder their ability to perform experimental tasks may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve user satisfaction and control for individuals with upper limb amputations.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using wireless electrodes is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing prosthetic control and user satisfaction.
