What this trial studies
This study investigates whether a composite test performed three months after lateral ankle ligamentoplasty can reduce the risk of failure to return to sports. It focuses on patients with chronic ankle instability who have undergone surgical repair and aims to establish objective criteria for a safe return to athletic activities. The intervention includes personalized physiotherapy compared to usual physiotherapy to assess its effectiveness in preventing relapse. The study addresses a significant gap in the management of post-operative ankle injuries, particularly regarding the timing of return to sports.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with chronic ankle instability who have failed conservative treatment and have undergone lateral ankle ligament repair surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 or over 50 years of age, or those who have undergone additional surgeries affecting recovery, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the safety and effectiveness of returning to sports for patients recovering from ankle surgery.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been recent studies on non-operated subjects, this specific approach remains novel and has not been extensively tested in post-operative patients.
