Evaluating a test for upper extremity function in rheumatoid arthritis patients
Validity and Reliability of the Six-minute Peg Board and Ring Test in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis
This study is testing a new six-minute test to see if it can better measure how well people with rheumatoid arthritis use their hands and arms compared to current methods.

What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the validity and reliability of the six-minute peg board and ring test (6-PBRT) specifically for patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It focuses on understanding how this test can effectively measure upper extremity endurance and functional capacity, which are often compromised in RA patients. By comparing the results of the 6-PBRT with existing measures of grip strength, the study seeks to establish a more comprehensive evaluation method for rehabilitation programs aimed at improving upper extremity function. The study will include patients aged 18-75 who have been diagnosed with RA and are willing to participate.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18-75 diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
Not a fit: Patients with serious cardiopulmonary, neurological, or orthopedic conditions, or those who have participated in an exercise program in the last three months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a reliable method for assessing upper extremity function in rheumatoid arthritis patients, leading to improved rehabilitation strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the 6-PBRT has been validated in other populations, its application specifically for rheumatoid arthritis patients is novel and has not been extensively tested.
