Evaluating a protein's levels in patients with Behcet's disease
Evaluation of Serum Follistatin-Like Protein 1 Levels in Behcet's Disease and Its Association With Disease Activity
This study is testing the levels of a specific protein in people with Behcet's disease to see if it can help us understand how active their condition is.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the levels of serum Follistatin-Like Protein 1 (FSTL-1) in patients diagnosed with Behcet's disease (BD) and to investigate its association with disease activity. BD is a complex autoimmune disorder characterized by various systemic manifestations, including recurrent ulcers and inflammation. The study will involve adult patients who meet the diagnostic criteria for BD, while excluding those with other autoimmune diseases. By analyzing FSTL-1 levels, the research seeks to identify potential biomarkers that could indicate disease severity and contribute to understanding the inflammatory pathways involved in BD.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with Behcet's disease according to established criteria.
Not a fit: Patients with other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or scleroderma may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into biomarkers for diagnosing and monitoring Behcet's disease activity.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of evaluating FSTL-1 in Behcet's disease is novel, similar studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for other autoimmune conditions.
