What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of a continuous fascia iliaca block for pain management in elderly patients undergoing hip surgery due to fractures. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the fascia iliaca block or traditional systemic analgesia. The study aims to determine if the continuous block provides better pain relief and reduces postoperative complications compared to standard pain management methods. The procedure involves ultrasound guidance to ensure accurate placement of the analgesic catheter.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly patients aged 65 and older with hip fractures who are classified as ASA II or III.

Not a fit: Patients younger than 65, those with ASA IV classification, or those with contraindications to the procedure may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve pain management and recovery outcomes for elderly patients after hip surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with similar analgesic techniques, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
