What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the diagnostic performance of the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) tool in patients diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Participants will undergo body composition analysis and a review of their medical history to evaluate their nutritional status using the GLIM criteria. The study will focus on determining the sensitivity and specificity of CONUT as a screening tool for nutritional deficiencies in this patient population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older with histologically confirmed Ulcerative Colitis.

Not a fit: Patients with significant comorbidities, such as diabetes or heart failure, or those who are pregnant or lactating may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve nutritional screening and management for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific use of CONUT in IBD is novel, similar nutritional screening tools have shown promise in other patient populations.
