What this trial studies

This interventional study aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) for adolescents aged 14-19 who are at risk of developing severe and enduring eating disorders. Participants will undergo approximately 22 weeks of treatment, which includes individual psychotherapy and group skills training. The primary focus is on measuring changes in eating disorder symptoms and emotional regulation, particularly addressing issues related to emotional overcontrol and loneliness. The study seeks to fill a gap in treatment options for youths who have not responded to previous interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 14-19 with restrictive eating disorder symptoms that persist despite prior treatment attempts.

Not a fit: Patients requiring emergency care for eating disorder symptoms or those at high risk for suicide may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could provide a new effective treatment option for adolescents struggling with eating disorders and emotional regulation issues.

How similar studies have performed: While research on RO-DBT is limited, similar therapeutic approaches have shown promise in treating emotional regulation issues in various psychiatric disorders.
