What this trial studies

This research evaluates a novel electronic camera designed to capture high-resolution volumetric images of the retina in human subjects. The study aims to determine if this advanced camera, which utilizes adaptive optics and optical coherence tomography, can provide clearer images than current clinical cameras. Additionally, it will explore how these detailed images can enhance understanding of retinal diseases, particularly age-related macular degeneration and inherited retinal degeneration. The research will involve subjects with specific retinal conditions to assess the camera's effectiveness in observing disease progression.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with retinal disease, specifically those with inherited retinal degeneration or retinal toxicity.

Not a fit: Patients with ocular media opacities, high refractive error, or those for whom pupil dilation poses a risk may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnosis and monitoring of retinal diseases, potentially reducing blindness rates.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies using advanced imaging technologies have shown promise in enhancing our understanding of retinal diseases.
