What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to sepsis or septic shock. It aims to evaluate the proportion of these patients receiving appropriate empiric antibiotic therapy within the recommended timeframe. The study highlights the critical importance of timely antibiotic administration, as delays or inappropriate choices can significantly impact patient outcomes. By analyzing data from patients admitted between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020, the study seeks to identify gaps in treatment practices and improve adherence to clinical guidelines.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients admitted to the ICU with sepsis or septic shock.

Not a fit: Patients admitted to the ICU for non-infectious reasons will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the management of sepsis in ICU settings, potentially reducing morbidity and mortality rates.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that timely and appropriate antibiotic treatment can significantly improve outcomes in septic patients, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing evidence.
