What this trial studies

This randomized interventional trial will enroll 64 oncology nurses at Ankara Etlik City Hospital and randomly assign them to a four-session face-to-face training program or a control group receiving written/digital educational materials. The intervention consists of four weekly 45-minute sessions covering recognizing emotions, burnout and coping strategies, communication for challenging conversations, and personal self-care techniques. Outcomes will be measured with pre- and post-intervention questionnaires including the Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Emotional Requirements Scale, and a Communication Skills Scale for Healthcare Professionals. Data will be anonymized and compared between groups over the study period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are oncology nurses at Ankara Etlik City Hospital with at least six months of unit experience who can attend all sessions, consent to participate, and have not had similar structured training in the past year.

Not a fit: Nurses who are on leave or planning leave during the study, those who received similar training within the past year, or those with severe psychological disorders are unlikely to receive benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, patients could experience clearer, more empathetic communication and better emotional support from their oncology nurses.

How similar studies have performed: Previous programs teaching emotional awareness and communication to healthcare staff have shown modest improvements in communication skills and reductions in burnout in some settings, so this approach has supportive but variable evidence.
