What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of electrical acupuncture stimulation therapy for patients suffering from postprostatectomy incontinence, a common issue affecting over 50% of individuals after prostate surgery. The study builds on preliminary experiments that suggested potential benefits of this therapy for urinary incontinence. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the active treatment or a sham acupuncture intervention to assess safety and efficacy. The trial aims to provide a more effective treatment option for those struggling with incontinence following prostatectomy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are men who have localized prostate cancer and have undergone prostatectomy within the last 4-6 weeks, experiencing incontinence post-surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of hormonal therapy, previous pelvic surgery, or pre-existing incontinence prior to prostatectomy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve the quality of life for patients experiencing incontinence after prostate surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes for electrical acupuncture in treating various types of urinary incontinence, suggesting potential for success in this novel application.
