EHR-linked tools and tailored videos to help parents and clinicians discuss vaccines
Improving Vaccine Acceptance Through EHR Integrated Patient- and Provider-Facing Decision Support

What this trial studies
Johns Hopkins, Emory, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta are building an integrated platform that delivers LetsTalkShots (LTS) tailored vaccine videos to patients/parents and pushes the same tailored talking points into the electronic health record for clinicians. The platform is designed to surface patient-specific talking points in clinical workflows at the right time, centralize messaging maintenance through LTS, and minimize site-specific implementation work. Providers at the CHOA Hughes Spalding Primary Care clinic will receive brief CME opportunities and clinicians and families will receive appointment reminders, with an initial phase focused on COVID-19 vaccines followed by all routine vaccines. The project will measure whether the integrated approach increases vaccine uptake among patients due for vaccines.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Children with an upcoming appointment at the CHOA Hughes Spalding Primary Care Clinic who are due for recommended vaccines and have a valid mobile phone number or e-mail in the EHR two business days before the visit are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients who are not due for any vaccines, who do not have a valid phone or email in the EHR, or who do not attend the participating clinic are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the platform could increase vaccine uptake and make vaccine conversations more personalized and easier for parents and clinicians.
How similar studies have performed: Prior work on tailored messaging and clinician prompts has shown promise for improving vaccine attitudes and uptake, but large-scale EHR-integrated implementations like this are less well tested.
