Efficacy of Blood Flow Restricted Training for Tennis Elbow
Investigation of the Efficacy of Blood Flow Restricted Training in Lateral Elbow Tendinopathy
This study is testing whether a special exercise method that limits blood flow can help people with tennis elbow feel less pain and improve their strength and function.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of blood flow restriction training combined with a multimodal physiotherapy program for patients suffering from lateral elbow tendinopathy, commonly known as tennis elbow. Participants will undergo an 8-week intervention where blood flow will be restricted by 40-50% during exercise to promote tendon healing without excessive stress. The approach aims to enhance muscle hypertrophy and strength while minimizing pain and improving function. The study will assess the outcomes based on changes in pain levels and functional ability.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 to 65 diagnosed with lateral elbow tendinopathy and experiencing significant pain as indicated by a score of 33 or more on the Patient Based Tennis Elbow Assessment Test.
Not a fit: Patients with significant comorbidities such as coronary artery disease, neurological deficits, or those who have had prior surgeries on the shoulder or upper extremity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a novel and effective treatment option for patients with tennis elbow, leading to improved pain relief and functional recovery.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of blood flow restriction in rehabilitation is gaining traction, this specific application for lateral elbow tendinopathy is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
