Effects of Whole Body Vibration on Energy Expenditure in Obese Teens
Effect of Body Vibration Sessions on Energy Expenditure at Rest and on Cardiovascular and Musculoskeletal Parameters in Obese Boys Hospitalized for a Multidisciplinary Program of Integrated Metabolic Rehabilitation

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the impact of Whole Body Vibration Exercise (WBVE) on resting energy expenditure in obese adolescents undergoing a three-week integrated metabolic rehabilitation program. Participants will be hospitalized and receive calorie restriction, aerobic physical activity, psychological counseling, and nutritional re-education. The effects of WBVE will be compared to a control group that only receives the metabolic rehabilitation without vibration training. Additionally, the study will assess cardiovascular and musculoskeletal improvements through specific functional tests.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are male adolescents aged 13-18 with obesity, specifically those with a Body Mass Index Standard Deviation Score greater than 2.
Not a fit: Patients with cardiovascular, psychiatric, or musculoskeletal conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance energy expenditure and overall health outcomes for obese adolescents.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of WBVE is gaining interest, this specific approach in adolescents with obesity is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
