What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of vitamin K2 supplementation on muscle size and function in adults suffering from muscle weakness associated with type 2 diabetes. Participants will receive either vitamin K2 or a placebo to assess changes in muscle strength and overall physical performance. The study aims to provide insights into whether vitamin K2 can improve muscle health in this population. It targets adults aged 40 and older who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and exhibit specific criteria for muscle weakness.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 40 and older with physician-confirmed type 2 diabetes and muscle weakness.

Not a fit: Patients with a BMI of 45 or higher, those on anticoagulant therapy, or individuals currently taking vitamin K2 supplements may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to new dietary recommendations or treatments to enhance muscle function in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on vitamin K2's effects on muscle weakness in diabetes, similar studies exploring vitamin supplementation for muscle health have shown promising results.
