What this trial studies

This study compares the effects of different creatine supplementation strategies during 16 weeks of resistance-band training in healthy older adults. Participants will be assigned to receive either a bolus of 5 grams, a bolus of 3 grams, intermittent doses of 5 grams, or a placebo. The study aims to measure changes in body composition, muscle thickness, performance, and functional ability. Resistance-band training is chosen for its safety and convenience, making it accessible for older adults.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 50 years and older who have not engaged in more than one resistance training session per week for the past six weeks.

Not a fit: Patients who have taken creatine supplements within the last 30 days or have allergies to the placebo will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance muscle strength and functional ability in older adults, improving their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with creatine supplementation during resistance training, suggesting this approach may be effective.
