What this trial studies

This clinical trial evaluates the impact of peanut consumption on cognitive performance, weight management, and inflammation among 200 healthy adolescents in Barcelona. Participants will be divided into two groups, with one group consuming 25 grams of peanuts daily for six months while both groups receive educational interventions promoting healthy dietary habits. The study aims to explore the potential neuroprotective effects of peanuts, which are rich in polyphenols, on brain development during a critical growth period. The trial will also assess whether incorporating peanuts into the diet affects weight gain.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adolescents aged 10 to 12 years attending primary schools in Barcelona.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of peanut allergies or intolerances, or those with medical conditions affecting peanut consumption, will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into dietary interventions that enhance cognitive function and promote healthy weight management in adolescents.

How similar studies have performed: While research on nut consumption and cognitive health in adolescents is limited, previous studies have shown positive associations between healthy food consumption and cognitive function.
