Effects of Otago Exercise Program on falls and balance in stroke patients
To Determine the Effects of the Otago Exercise Program on the Frequency of Falls, Balance Capabilities, and Overall Physical Performance in Stroke Patients.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of the Otago Exercise Program (OEP) on reducing falls and improving balance and physical performance in stroke patients. Participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving the OEP alongside routine physiotherapy, and a control group receiving standard care. The study will assess participants using the Berg Balance Scale, Time Up and Go Test, and Fugl-Meyer Assessment over a six-week period. The aim is to determine the effectiveness of the OEP specifically in a stroke population, which has been less studied compared to elderly individuals.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 40 and above who have experienced an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke within the last six months and have specific balance impairments.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive issues, language barriers, or other significant physical disabilities unrelated to stroke may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance balance and reduce fall risk in stroke patients, improving their overall quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes for the Otago Exercise Program in elderly populations, suggesting potential benefits for stroke patients, although this specific application is less explored.
