What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates how daily consumption of 100% orange juice can improve skin health in women aged 45-65. The study aims to determine if the micronutrients in orange juice, such as vitamin C and flavanones, can protect against skin aging caused by UV exposure and oxidative stress. Conducted over 12 weeks, the trial will use a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover design to assess various skin health metrics, including elasticity and hydration. Participants will consume either orange juice or a placebo beverage, with skin assessments performed throughout the study.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 45-65 with a BMI between 18.5 and 29.9 and Fitzpatrick skin types 2 and 3.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of skin cancer may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide evidence that orange juice consumption improves skin health and appearance in women.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited clinical evidence specifically on orange juice, other studies have shown positive effects of dietary antioxidants on skin health.
