What this trial studies

This study investigates how nitrogen enrichment in the environment affects allergy symptoms in individuals sensitized to pollen. It involves analyzing allergen-specific IgE reactivity in pollen-allergic patients and comparing their responses to various pollen samples. The study will assess basophil degranulation thresholds and the qualitative and quantitative reactivity to different pollen fragments. Additionally, it aims to correlate allergy symptoms with the reactivity to these pollen samples.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with a positive skin prick test for grass and/or birch pollen.

Not a fit: Patients who have undergone desensitization therapy in the last two years may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of pollen allergies in relation to environmental factors.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on environmental impacts on allergies exist, this specific focus on nitrogen deposition and its direct effects on pollen allergy is relatively novel.
