What this trial studies

This study investigates the physiological effects of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA) and long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) in individuals diagnosed with Medium-Chain Acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency (MCADD) and healthy participants. It employs a randomized crossover design with two test days, where participants will ingest either MCFA or LCFA in the form of triacylglycerol oils. The order of ingestion is randomized to assess the metabolic responses to each type of fatty acid. The study aims to provide insights into lipid metabolism and potential dietary recommendations for MCADD patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include males and females aged 18-80 who have been diagnosed with Medium-Chain Acyl-CoA Dehydrogenase Deficiency.

Not a fit: Patients with diabetes, kidney or liver disease, or those on specific medications may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dietary guidelines and management strategies for patients with MCADD.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies, the investigation of fatty acid metabolism is a well-explored area, suggesting potential for meaningful insights.
