What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of dexamethasone, dexmedetomidine, and their combination in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It is a double-blind, phase 3 interventional study that compares these treatments against a control group receiving normal saline. The goal is to determine which approach is most effective in reducing these common postoperative complications. Participants will be monitored for nausea and vomiting following their surgery to assess the outcomes of the different interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged 20 to 50 years with ASA I or II status who are scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of psychotic illnesses, Parkinson's disease, motion disorders, smokers, or those with a history of chemotherapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, improving recovery experiences for patients.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with dexamethasone and dexmedetomidine in reducing postoperative nausea and vomiting, indicating that this approach has potential based on existing evidence.
