What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates how creatine monohydrate supplementation affects body composition, physical performance, and muscle creatine levels in vegan individuals over a four-week period. The study involves 20 participants who have adhered to a strict vegan diet for at least six months and are randomly assigned to receive either creatine or a placebo. Assessments will include various physical performance tests and blood analyses to measure creatine levels. The goal is to determine if creatine supplementation can enhance physical performance and muscle mass in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are physically active vegans aged 18-40 with a BMI between 18.5-24.9 who have not used creatine supplements previously.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases affecting athletic performance or those who have recently used creatine supplements may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide vegan individuals with a means to improve their physical performance and muscle mass through supplementation.
How similar studies have performed: While there is existing research on creatine supplementation, this specific focus on vegan individuals represents a novel approach.
