What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the relationship between continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment and pain outcomes in individuals diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic pain. Participants will complete questionnaires at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months after starting CPAP therapy to assess pain intensity and CPAP adherence. The study aims to explore how CPAP usage and baseline apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) correlate with pain outcomes, as well as the prevalence of chronic pain in patients with OSA. The findings could provide insights into the management of chronic pain in patients undergoing CPAP treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have been newly diagnosed with clinically relevant obstructive sleep apnea and are starting CPAP treatment.

Not a fit: Patients who are currently receiving CPAP treatment or have had CPAP treatment in the past year may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve pain management strategies for patients with both obstructive sleep apnea and chronic pain.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on the relationship between sleep and pain exist, this specific investigation into CPAP treatment's effects on chronic pain in OSA patients is relatively novel.
