What this trial studies
This observational study will analyze a prospective birth cohort by collecting biological samples from pregnant women and their newborns. The focus is on measuring the gut microbial diversity and metabolites in newborns to systematically evaluate how antibiotic exposure during pregnancy impacts the gut microbiota's structure and function. The findings aim to enhance our understanding of how such exposure may influence the growth and development of gut microbiota in early life.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include pregnant women aged 20-40 years with a single pregnancy and gestational age of 36 weeks or more.
Not a fit: Patients with serious congenital diseases in their newborns or those who do not meet the inclusion criteria may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into how antibiotic exposure during pregnancy affects infant gut health and development.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into the effects of antibiotics on gut microbiota, this specific approach focusing on pregnant women and newborns is relatively novel.
