What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the impact of a 12-week Amazonian dance program on both cognitive and motor symptoms in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Participants, aged 50 to 80, will be divided into groups engaging in either the dance intervention or a structured non-dance control activity. The study will assess various outcomes, including cognition, language, and quality of life, using validated assessment tools. The trial will take place at two universities in Brazil, with participants recruited from community health services and Parkinson's associations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 50 to 80 with a clinical diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease in stages I-III.
Not a fit: Patients with recent surgeries, deep brain stimulation, or other significant neurological or chronic diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could improve cognitive and motor functions in patients with Parkinson's disease.
How similar studies have performed: While dance interventions for Parkinson's disease have been explored, this specific approach using Amazonian dance is relatively novel and untested.
