What this trial studies
This study evaluates how extra virgin olive oil and almond oil affect skin integrity in neonates admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Conducted in a training and research hospital, the study involves 28 infants, with each nurse caring for 3 to 4 babies. Daily skin condition assessments are performed, and the oils are part of the routine skin care products used in the NICU. The study compares the effects of these two natural oils without a control group.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are neonates born at 37-42 weeks of gestation who are planned for at least 5 days of hospitalization in the NICU.
Not a fit: Patients who are discharged before 5 days or require phototherapy will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve skin care practices for neonates, enhancing their overall skin health and integrity.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of oils has not been extensively studied, similar approaches using natural oils for skin care in neonates have shown promise.
