What this trial studies

This experimental study investigates how alcohol intoxication, gender, and bystander attitudes affect the willingness to intervene in sexual violence situations among young adults aged 21 to 30. Participants will be randomly assigned to consume either an alcoholic beverage or a control beverage, and their responses will be assessed in simulated risky scenarios. The study aims to determine if alcohol has a differential impact on intervention barriers based on gender and pre-existing prosocial attitudes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are young adults aged 21 to 30 who have consumed significant amounts of alcohol in the past year.

Not a fit: Patients currently in recovery for alcohol or substance use disorders, or those with medical contraindications to alcohol consumption, will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of how alcohol influences bystander behavior, potentially leading to improved intervention strategies in sexual violence prevention.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing research on alcohol's effects on behavior, this specific focus on bystander intervention in sexual violence scenarios is relatively novel.
