What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of a defined plant-based diet on individuals diagnosed with coronary artery disease (CAD). Participants will be recruited from the Montgomery Heart & Wellness Clinic in Houston, TX, and will follow a strict plant-based dietary protocol for 42 days while receiving standard medical care. The diet excludes animal products, cooked foods, and certain beverages, and all food will be provided to participants. The study aims to assess both clinical and biochemical outcomes related to heart health.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are men and women diagnosed with coronary artery disease who currently follow a standard western diet.

Not a fit: Patients with current tobacco use, excessive alcohol consumption, or other specified health conditions may not benefit from this study.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

* Diagnosis with coronary artery disease (based on current EKG or prior diagnosis)
* New patient

Exclusion Criteria:

* Current tobacco use

  -\>2 glasses of wine for woman, \>1 glass for men
* Current cancer diagnosis
* An ongoing clinically defined infection
* eGFR \< 30
* Pregnancy
* Lactation
* Prior hospitalization within past 6 months
* Unstable angina
* Heart catheterization within past 6 months
* Cardiac perfusion study past 6 months
* Have not been on any form of a plant-based diet previously
