What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of tramadol on postoperative sore throat in patients undergoing thyroid surgery with general anesthesia and endotracheal intubation. It is a prospective, randomized, controlled trial conducted at a single university hospital. A total of 168 patients will be randomly assigned to receive either tramadol or normal saline before and during surgery to assess the effectiveness of tramadol in alleviating sore throat symptoms postoperatively.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are female patients with ASA physical status I-II scheduled for elective thyroidectomy with endotracheal intubation.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of thyroid surgery, chronic sore throat, or contraindications to tramadol will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide an effective method to reduce postoperative sore throat discomfort for patients undergoing thyroid surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the use of tramadol for postoperative pain management, indicating potential success in similar approaches.
