What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Otago Exercise Program (OEP) in preventing falls among older adults in Jordan. It is a single-blinded randomized controlled trial that involves two groups: one receiving the OEP along with health awareness videos, and a control group receiving only the health awareness videos. Participants will be recruited from community organizations and social media, and their progress will be monitored over an 8-week period. The study aims to provide insights into how structured exercise can improve balance and strength, thereby reducing fall-related incidents.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 60 and above who can read and write in Arabic and walk outdoors with minimal support.
Not a fit: Patients with serious orthopedic conditions or major neurological disorders that affect mobility may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the incidence of falls and related injuries in older adults.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that the Otago Exercise Program is effective in reducing falls in older adults, indicating a promising approach.
