What this trial studies

This study investigates the impact of low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy on nitric oxide synthase and microcirculation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and peripheral neuropathy. The therapy aims to enhance nerve repair and regeneration by promoting neurotrophic factors and activating Schwann cells. Participants will receive this treatment while maintaining their current pharmacological regimen, allowing researchers to monitor changes in nerve function and blood flow. The study focuses on understanding how this novel approach can improve symptoms associated with diabetic neuropathy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are symptomatically stable and have peripheral neuropathy.

Not a fit: Patients with implanted cardiac pacemakers, skin allergies, or other specified cardiovascular conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve nerve function and circulation in patients with diabetic neuropathy.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of shock wave therapy is gaining interest, this specific application in diabetic neuropathy is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
