Effect of Relaxation on Somatosensory Evoked Potentials
Randomized, Single-blind Study Evaluating the Interest of Prior Relaxation on the Quality of the Recordings of the SomatoSensory Evoked Potentials
This study tests if a short relaxation session before a nerve test can improve the quality of the results and make the experience better for patients with upper limb conditions.

What this trial studies
This study investigates how prior relaxation affects the quality of Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SSEP) recordings in patients undergoing examination for upper limb conditions. Patients will receive a 15-minute relaxation session led by a trained nurse before their SSEP test. The study aims to compare the results of SSEP recordings between those who received relaxation and those who did not, focusing on the impact of relaxation on signal quality and patient experience. The goal is to determine if relaxation can enhance the accuracy and comfort of the examination process.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 18 to 70 who are referred for SSEP studies of the upper limbs and can understand the relaxation instructions.
Not a fit: Patients who refuse to participate or for whom a trained relaxation technician is unavailable may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could improve the quality of SSEP recordings and enhance patient comfort during examinations.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of using relaxation before SSEP examinations may be novel, similar studies have shown that relaxation techniques can positively influence patient outcomes in various medical assessments.
