What this trial studies

This study investigates the effectiveness of a manual therapy protocol, both alone and in combination with an exercise program, for treating orofacial pain in wind musicians. A total of 40 participants will be recruited from conservatories in the Community of Madrid, and they will be divided into a control group receiving only manual therapy and an experimental group receiving both manual therapy and exercises. The treatment will consist of ten sessions over five weeks, with assessments conducted before and after the intervention, as well as follow-ups at two and four months. The study aims to determine the short, medium, and long-term efficacy of these treatments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are metal or wood wind musicians aged 18-65 who have experienced orofacial pain during practice in the last 30 days and practice for more than 20 hours a week.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological diseases, previous analgesic treatments, or any trauma or surgical history related to the skull, cervical spine, or temporomandibular joint may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective treatment options for wind musicians suffering from orofacial pain, improving their quality of life and performance.

How similar studies have performed: While there is some existing research on manual therapy and exercise for orofacial pain, this study aims to provide high-quality evidence specifically for wind musicians, making it a novel approach.
