What this trial studies

This study investigates how art therapy can help women experiencing fear of childbirth during pregnancy. It employs a mixed-methods approach, starting with a quasi-experimental design to compare outcomes between women receiving art therapy and those receiving standard antenatal care. Participants will be screened for fear of childbirth using the Fear of Birth Scale, and those with high scores will be invited to participate in the intervention. The second phase will qualitatively explore the experiences of participants who underwent art therapy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are women aged 21 to 50 years, English literate, with a singleton pregnancy in the second trimester and a high score on the Fear of Birth Scale.

Not a fit: Patients with contraindications for vaginal birth, significant obstetric complications, or current depression requiring medical intervention may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce fear of childbirth and improve maternal mental health and bonding with infants.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific application of art therapy for fear of childbirth is novel, similar therapeutic approaches have shown promise in addressing anxiety and mental health issues in pregnant women.
