Effect of airway pressure changes on lung function after abdominal muscle tightening

Effects of Intraoperative Peak Airway Pressure Changes on Postoperative Pulmonary Function After Muscle Plication in Abdominoplasty Operations: A Randomized Double-Blind Trial

What this trial studies

This observational study evaluates how changes in peak airway pressure during surgery affect postoperative pulmonary function in patients undergoing muscle plication as part of an abdominoplasty. The focus is on individuals with significant separation of the recti muscles, where the surgical procedure involves removing excess skin and fat while tightening the abdominal wall muscles. By monitoring intraoperative airway pressure, the study aims to provide insights into its impact on recovery and lung function post-surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20 to 50 years with ASA physical status classification I who are scheduled for abdominoplasty with muscle plication.

Not a fit: Patients with anemia, bleeding disorders, cardiovascular issues, or respiratory diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve postoperative care and outcomes for patients undergoing abdominoplasty.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies on airway pressure and pulmonary function exist, this specific approach focusing on muscle plication during abdominoplasty is relatively novel.
