What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a patient-facing educational video on chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) bathing to improve adherence among hospitalized patients. Approximately 16 inpatient units will participate, with half receiving the video intervention and the other half continuing with standard education methods. Patients will have access to the video through QR codes in their rooms or on unit iPads, and their understanding will be assessed through a voluntary questionnaire after viewing. The goal is to enhance patient knowledge and compliance with CHG bathing to reduce the risk of infections.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include hospitalized patients who require a chlorhexidine skin treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with a chlorhexidine allergy or those on comfort care will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infections in hospitalized patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with educational videos in other medical contexts, suggesting potential for this novel application in CHG bathing.
