What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial enrolls adults aged 18–64 with asthma who have partial control (ACT 20–24) or uncontrolled asthma (ACT ≤19) to receive a structured education program based on the Roy Adaptation Model. Participants are randomized to the education intervention or usual care, with regular, planned sessions designed to improve self-management behaviors and adaptation to living with asthma. Primary outcomes are psychosocial adjustment and disease-specific quality of life measured with validated tools, with follow-up assessments to track changes over time. The trial is conducted at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University and excludes patients with other chronic diseases or communication barriers.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults 18–64 diagnosed with asthma for at least six months, living in the city center, with ACT scores indicating partial control (20–24) or uncontrolled asthma (≤19), and able to communicate in Turkish are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with additional chronic diseases, neuropsychiatric diagnoses, sensory or language barriers, or those with well-controlled asthma are unlikely to gain benefit from this specific program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help people with asthma manage their condition better, improve their psychosocial adjustment, and increase quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Previous asthma education programs have produced modest improvements in self-management and quality of life, but the Roy Adaptation Model–based approach has been less frequently tested.
