What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial aims to assess the impact of education and motivational interviewing on treatment adherence and self-care agency among patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Participants will be divided into intervention and control groups, with the intervention group receiving a single educational session followed by multiple motivational interviewing sessions. Data will be collected before and after the intervention to evaluate changes in adherence and self-care capabilities. The study seeks to provide insights into effective strategies for enhancing patient engagement in their own care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults with a confirmed diagnosis of COPD for at least six months who are willing to participate and can communicate effectively.

Not a fit: Patients experiencing exacerbations, those who are uncooperative due to dyspnea, or individuals with malignant or psychiatric illnesses may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve treatment adherence and self-care among COPD patients, leading to better health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that motivational interviewing can enhance treatment adherence in various chronic conditions, suggesting potential success for this approach in COPD.
