Early warning system for cognitive impairment in diabetes

The Early Warning System for the Central Nervous System Micro-structure Alterations During Early Diabetes Based on the Multi-mode MRIs

Tang-Du Hospital · NCT02420470

What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on identifying cerebral abnormalities in patients with type 2 diabetes and mild cognitive impairment using advanced multi-parametric functional MRI techniques. The study aims to establish an early warning system for detecting central nervous system micro-structural alterations associated with diabetes. By integrating psychological assessments and clinical biochemical examinations, the researchers will evaluate the relationship between these cerebral biomarkers and cognitive decline. The findings may help in monitoring prediabetic conditions and preventing progression to diabetes-related cognitive issues.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with type 2 diabetes who do not have dementia and have completed at least six years of education.

Not a fit: Patients with serious brain diseases, pregnant women, or those with contraindications for MRI will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to early detection and intervention strategies for cognitive impairment in diabetic patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into cognitive impairment in diabetes, this specific approach using multi-modal MRI techniques is relatively novel.
