What this trial studies

Patients who had ERCP to remove stones from the common bile duct and are planned for laparoscopic cholecystectomy will undergo surgery either early or after a delayed interval. The study will record outcomes such as postoperative complications, bile duct injury, conversion to open surgery, length of hospital stay, and readmissions and compare results between the timing groups. The work is conducted at Khyber Teaching Hospital in Peshawar and enrolls consenting patients who meet the inclusion criteria. The purpose is to see if timing of cholecystectomy after ERCP affects safety and recovery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients who had choledocholithiasis treated with ERCP, are fit for laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and are willing to consent to participation.

Not a fit: Patients who are not medically fit for laparoscopic surgery, who decline ERCP or surgery, or who have other complicating conditions are unlikely to benefit from this comparison.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could identify the safer timing for gallbladder removal after ERCP and reduce complications and hospital stays.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies comparing early versus delayed cholecystectomy after ERCP have produced mixed results, with several reporting that early surgery can be safe and shorten hospital stay but no universal consensus.
