What this trial studies

The Dutch version of the Pectus Excavatum Evaluation Questionnaire (PEEQ) will be field-tested and psychometrically validated in patients aged 12–18 scheduled for Nuss repair at Zuyderland Medical Center. Participants will complete the PEEQ on paper at the preoperative clinic visit, then electronically two months after surgery, and again at least two weeks after a prior assessment to measure test–retest reliability. Parents or legal guardians will be invited to complete the parent section of the questionnaire. Collected data will be analyzed for reliability, internal consistency, and responsiveness to change.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Dutch-speaking patients aged 12–18 years with pectus excavatum who are scheduled to undergo a Nuss procedure, with parents or guardians able to complete the parent section.

Not a fit: Patients who do not speak Dutch, are outside the 12–18 age range, or are not undergoing surgery may not benefit from or be eligible for this validation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians and families will have a reliable Dutch tool to track how pectus excavatum affects symptoms and daily life from the patient's perspective.

How similar studies have performed: The original English PEEQ is established and used in practice, but translated versions require local validation, so this follows an established approach.
