What this trial studies

This is an observational study recruiting adults with epilepsy who hold a category B driving license and drive at least monthly. Participants complete simulated driving tasks while EEG is recorded to link cognitive and neural markers with driving performance. The work is set against French legal frameworks for driving with epilepsy and aims to provide more objective, task-based data than routine medical consultations. Findings will be used to inform fitness-to-drive guidance rather than to test a therapeutic intervention.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18–65 with epilepsy who hold a category B license, drive at least once per month, have no other medical contraindication to driving, and can attend the study site and provide consent.

Not a fit: People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have known simulator/virtual reality sickness, do not drive regularly, or are outside the 18–65 age range are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could offer more objective evidence to help decide who can drive safely and support personalized driving guidance for people with epilepsy.

How similar studies have performed: Previous research has used driving simulators and EEG in epilepsy and other brain disorders with promising but heterogeneous results, and standardized methods remain limited.
