What this trial studies

This project aims to improve the environmental health literacy of doulas regarding endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in personal care products. It involves an educational intervention where doulas will participate in a course designed to enhance their knowledge and ability to counsel pregnant individuals on reducing EDC exposure. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention by comparing the environmental health literacy scores of doulas before and after the course, as well as assessing the impact on the pregnant individuals they counsel. The focus is particularly on addressing health disparities faced by non-Hispanic black women during pregnancy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include doulas currently working with pregnant individuals under 30 weeks of pregnancy and pregnant individuals who are also under 30 weeks into their pregnancy.

Not a fit: Patients who are beyond 30 weeks of pregnancy or doulas not currently working with pregnant individuals will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could empower doulas to better inform pregnant individuals about reducing harmful chemical exposures, potentially improving maternal and fetal health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on doulas and environmental health literacy, similar educational interventions have shown promise in improving health outcomes in other populations.
