What this trial studies
This project evaluates two psychological treatments for functional abdominal pain in children aged 8-14, delivered through a collaborative care pathway in primary care settings. The study aims to determine the effectiveness of a stepped-care model that includes digital psychoeducation and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions. General practitioners will initially diagnose the condition, after which children will receive tailored digital interventions managed by specialist pediatric clinics. The goal is to identify which treatment is most effective for different children with functional abdominal pain disorders.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 8-14 diagnosed with functional abdominal pain disorders at participating primary care health centers.
Not a fit: Patients with significant anxiety or depression scores, or those with learning disabilities that prevent them from following the Swedish National Curriculum, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide effective early interventions for children suffering from functional abdominal pain, potentially reducing their symptoms and improving their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of digital interventions for this condition is novel, similar approaches using digital CBT have shown promise in other studies.
